In late December, beneath the neon glow of Christmas lights strung around their local bar, Chris and Kirtly had their first date. What started as a nervous online connection turned into an eight-hour-long conversation, late-night bar hopping, and a RUTHLESS game of darts between two people just looking for excuses to keep the night from ending.
Despite Kirt’s insistence that she “wasn’t looking for a serious relationship right now,” she found herself making time to fit Chris into her busy schedule. Lengthy text conversations and snack breaks between study sessions turned into weekend trips to the museum and brunch on lazy Sunday mornings. Chris often found himself stuck in 3:00am movie marathons with Kirt (even though he has a strict bedtime of 10:00pm) and would still end the night blasting upbeat music on the drive home with a wide smile on his face.
Through these stolen moments, a quickly deepening connection was forming. Even with their conflicting schedules and busy lives, Kirt and Chris knew this connection was worth pursuing fully — with sincerity and intention. They began to dream and collaborate on a life they could build together.
Grand plans of moving to a big city, getting a dog (or two), and going on elaborate vacations may not have all been fulfilled, but what they found in its place was a simpler and sweeter reality. They built a relationship with depth that only comes from weathering unforeseen hardships, celebrating the smallest of moments, and gaining familiarity through the passage of time.
2024
When Kirt and Chris made the decision to step into this next chapter of their lives together, they enlisted the help of Kirtly’s mom, Selena, to design bespoke rings for each other. While the final rings remained a SURPRISE, THEY PLANNED THEIR ENGAGEMENT WEEKEND AS THEY ALWAYS HAD - TOGETHER.
On a brisk October morning, they hiked to a familiar mountain lake overlooking the Salt Lake Valley. They read letters to each other, expressing their commitment and intentions in taking this next step. Together AS PARTNERS, they proposed, celebrated, and honored their journey up to this point. They revisited the old local bar from years past, where two unsuspecting people found one another and started down a path neither of them saw coming.
Eight years have passed since that first date — Kirt no longer drinks cider, Chris no longer pretends to be bad at darts, and yet the eight-hour-long conversations haven’t changed. They are endlessly curious about each other, the hobbies they share, and the life they are actively working toward. Evenings are often spent with Kirt reading on the couch, their cat Boris lounging in her lap, while Chris serenades them with guitar late into the night. Weekends are filled with backpacking trips with friends, family gatherings around good food, and working on the house they purchased together this past summer.
They are honored to have you as part of their story. Thank you for supporting and uplifting them in times of need. Thank you for coming together to celebrate them and this next chapter of their lives.
